Beyond text and attachments, DicaNote has a drawing editor. Use it for a sketch, mind map, diagram, or a quick doodle you do not want to lose on paper.

To open a new drawing: tap + and choose Drawing. The full create menu is in Create note, template, checklist or drawing.

DicaNote drawing editor with the Mountain sketch and the Move, Select, Draw, Fill, Eraser, Text, Image, Undo and Redo bar
Grid canvas, zoom in the corner, tools along the bottom. The title shows Saved when nothing is waiting to be written.

The pinned Welcome to DicaNote note already includes a sketch (Mountain sketch). Tap it to open this editor. For a blank board, use + → Drawing.

What you see on screen

  • Title at the top. Tap to rename. Under it you get Saved, or a saving state.
  • The dotted background button turns the grid on and off.
  • Layers shows the active layer. The badge is the layer number, not a stroke count.
  • Zoom (90% in the screenshot) with − and +. Tap the percentage for presets, Fit page, Fit width, and Focus mode.
  • Bottom bar with the tools. The active one is highlighted.

Toolbar

In the appUse
MovePans the view. The finger does not draw.
SelectGrabs a stroke or object to move.
DrawFreehand. Tap it again for color, the eyedropper, and shapes.
FillFills a closed area.
EraserRemoves what the finger crosses.
TextA text box on the canvas.
ImageDrops an image sticker on the canvas.
Undo / RedoStep backward and forward. Hold the button to repeat.

There is no separate Shapes button anymore. Shapes live in the stroke panel.

Color, shape, and nib

With Draw already selected, tap it again. A row appears: current color, recent colors, more colors, Eyedropper, a shapes shortcut, line style, symmetry, and ⋮ (All style options).

Drawing style row with colors, eyedropper, shapes and symmetry above the tool bar
Tap Draw again for color, the eyedropper, and the shapes shortcut.

That row’s ⋮ opens Stroke (Applies as you draw):

DicaNote Stroke panel with Pen, Brush, Pencil, Chalk, shapes, symmetry, width and opacity
Stroke: nib, line, shape, symmetry, width, opacity, and stabilizer.
  • Pen, Brush, Pencil, and Chalk. Each nib keeps its own width.
  • Solid, dashed, or dotted lines, and square or round ends.
  • Freehand, straight line, square, circle, and grid. With a shape armed, the bottom button reads Shape instead of Draw.
  • Symmetry: Off, vertical, horizontal, four quadrants, or radial.
  • Width, Opacity, and Finger stabilizer.

Done closes the panel. The palette button on the canvas opens saved styles.

How to draw

  1. Open the welcome sketch, or create one (+ → Drawing).
  2. Tap Draw and drag on the canvas.
  3. Tap Draw again for another color or a shape.
  4. Eraser on a bad stroke. Fill on an area that is already closed.
  5. Text for a label. Image for a reference photo.
  6. The disk at the top writes the note. When it is current, the title shows Saved.

More than one page

In the editor ⋮, Add page adds a sheet. In Move, you can pull the canvas to add a page. Remove last page only shows up when the last sheet is empty, so it cannot clip a stroke.

Page arrows and “1 / N” appear once there is more than one page.

Page size

⋮ → Page size. The subtitle is Change the page your drawing sits on.

DicaNote Page size panel with Fit screen, Portrait, Landscape, Square, A4, Custom and the Scale drawing to fit switch
Page size: presets, pixel size, and whether the drawing scales.
In the appDetail
Fit screenThe screen size (1080 × 1851 in the screenshot)
Portrait3:4
Landscape4:3
Square1:1
A4150 dpi
CustomWidth and height in px

Under Custom, Width (px) and Height (px) stay between 320 and 8192. The lock keeps the ratio.

Scale drawing to fit decides what Apply does:

  • on: The whole drawing is resized to fit the new page.
  • off: The drawing keeps its size; only the page changes. If a stroke will not fit, the app says part of it will sit outside the page.

Apply confirms. Cancel drops the change.

Save as

  1. ⋮ → Save as.
  2. Pick a format. A file format then opens the Android folder picker.
Drawing Save as sheet with New drawing, Dicanote package, JSON, PNG, PDF and SVG
Save as asks for a format before writing a file.
OptionWhat it writes
New drawingA new copy in the drawing library
Dicanote packageA portable package with image assets
JSON fileAn editable .json. Embedded images need the .dicanote package
PNG image.png
PDF file.pdf
SVG file.svg

The top disk (Save) stores the note inside DicaNote. Save as exports a copy. Share as sends the drawing to another app.

When to use drawing

Use it for a sketch, mind map, diagram, or a doodle you do not want to lose on paper. A list, a long paragraph, or a checklist belongs in a text note. A file that already arrived from another app goes in as a PDF or an attachment.
